From Other to Us

From other to us is a dinner series and community gathering that brings together foreign-born chefs and pittsburghers. through collaboratively cooking a communal meal and sitting down to eat together, we learn about each other and what a ‘taste of home’ is to each of us.

From other to us: a taste of home

On Monday, July 16th, we hosted our first From Other to Us Dinner event — a hands-on cooking experience led by Syrian Community members, in partnership with the Pittsburgh Food Policy CouncilThreadbare Cider and Mead, and the amazing Nayla Abu Hamad! From Other to Us: A Taste of Home was inspired by a program in Berlin called Über den Tellerrand (Beyond the Plate), whose mantra is to use "food as a means for cultural exchange." The event was made possible by funding from LUSH, which includes mini grants that will be awarded to local Syrian chefs.

Want to make the recipes yourself? Print a cookbook with the dishes we prepared. More photos from this beautiful evening here!
