From Other to Us

From other to us is a dinner series and community gathering that brings together foreign-born chefs and pittsburghers. through collaboratively cooking a communal meal and sitting down to eat together, we learn about each other and what a ‘taste of home’ is to each of us.

From other to us: a taste of home

From Other to Us is a hands-on cooking experience led community members for community members. The events are inspired by a program in Berlin called Über den Tellerrand (Beyond the Plate), whose mantra is to use "food as a means for cultural exchange."

Past events

  • May 2019 in partnership with collaboration with the Bhutanese Community Association of Pittsburgh, Age-Friendly Greater Pittsburgh, and our hosts at 25 Carrick. Photos here!

  • April 2019 with Latinx community members. The event was held at Casa Brasil.

  • July 2018 highlighting Syrian Community members. This dinner was in partnership with the Pittsburgh Food Policy Council, Threadbare Cider House, and would have been impossible without the support of the amazing Nayla. More photos from this beautiful evening here!

Want to make the recipes yourself? We made cookbooks for our Syrian and our Bhutanese/Nepalese dinner events.
